
Jean was born 01/05/80 and is the eldest of 4 sons.
From Grade 1 to 10 he was in Helderberg College
Did his N1 and N2 certificates in panelbeating at Westlake Technicon
Worked at Steyls Panelbeaters (belongs to his father) for approximately one year. At that time his mother owned Steyls Tow In Services. In 2002 he took over the business from her after working with her for a period of 3 years.
In 2005 Steyls Tow In Services amalgamated with Roadside Assist and they became 1st Call, where he is today.
Jean started racing in 2000 at Tygerberg Raceway. During this season he won various races and was placed under the top 3 places numerous times.
He won the award for the most spectacular newcomer of the year and was the class and club champion for the year 2000.
In 2002 he won the award for Rookie of the year at Tygerberg Raceway.
He raced at various other racetracks such as Oudtshoorn and Worcester and after joining the Worcester Racetrack at the end of 2002, he also raced away at Port Elizabeth, Springbok and Bloemfontein.
In 2003 he was chosen to represent the South African Team against England at Worcester Raceway. He finished in the top 5.
Jean has been driving the Corsa with Rotary since 2004 and is the current SA 1 champion.
Jean has also started driving in the Late Model Class in Worcester earlier this year and is enjoying the difference in the two cars and the new challenge tremendously.
The highlights of his racing career has been to get his SA 1 title and to represent the SA team agains the English Team on Killarney earlier this year. Although he did qualify to go to the finals, he could not attend due to other racing commitments.
He has also received his Western Province colours for 2007 and is currently busy putting together his new car for the coming season.
He has a tremendous amount of support from his family and friends, his pitmacs,Dirk and Gert, his sponsors, On Site Trading, Steyl Panelbeaters and Steyns 4 x 4.
His support team even won the prize for the best supporting team in Port Elizabeth. With so much love and support for a great guy and excellent driver, we see him still going very far!
